Key messages for visitors to the Dales
Tourism businesses are the key contacts between visitors and this special area. Being enthusiastic about the landscape and natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales is something that will come naturally to most people working in tourism – but what are the key messages that Dales Tourism would like businesses to convey to visitors?
Explore from the door
There are great things to see and do straight from where you are staying. Take the time to explore the local area, and find those spots that make the area special. There is a wealth of things to do and see in all parts of the Yorkshire Dales. Help your customers to stay local by providing details of days out, walks, and places of interest in your area.
Take a bit of the Dales home
The Yorkshire Dales is the home of some great producers of food and drink – cheese, preserves, lamb, limestone country beef, and beer to name a few. There are also many local artists and craft producers – so why not take back a piece of the Dales. Help your customers by introducing them to local produce, and knowing local outlets and suppliers.
Respect, protect and enjoy
Not surprisingly, getting out into the countryside is part of most peoples’ visit – it is after all one of Britain’s Breathing Spaces. Helping your customers understand the needs of wildlife and farmers can add interest as well as assisting with the protection of the area.
The Dales is a living landscape
The interaction of people with nature through history has produced a landscape of remarkable beauty, distinctive character and immense interest in the Yorkshire Dales. This can be seen in the landscape, the villages and the remains of previous industries. Provide some information on the special qualities of the Yorkshire Dales.
Keeping it special
There are many ways that visitors can get involved with helping to keep the Yorkshire Dales special. They could join one of the Friends organisations, plant a tree through the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, or look at Donate to the Dales to support conservation projects in the Dales. Make these opportunities known to your customers.
Besides giving visitors a great experience and introduction to the Yorkshire Dales, there are other measures that you might want to investigate, not least because they can make good financial sense. Have you looked at:
